An echocardiogram is a scan which produces a detailed view of the structures within your heart. It can show how your heart is working, and enable consultants to diagnose any abnormalities in blood pumping and flow, for example.
How does it work?
A pulse of high frequency inaudible sound is transmitted through your chest by placing a recorder (probe) on the chest wall. The device picks up echoes of the sound waves produced by the machine as they bounce off the different parts of your heart to form an image of it. The test will be carried out by our specialist cardiac physiologist, and the results will be reviewed by a cardiologist. Our echocardiogram in Harley Street can help detect conditions such as:
- Damage from a heart attack.
- Heart failure.
- Congenital heart disease.
- Problems with the heart valves.
At 58 Harley Street Medical Centre, we can offer same day appointments for your test. A full report will be provided to you at the end of the screening, and should you like to discuss your results with a specialist, we can organise a consultation immediately.
